4th Dr. Hans Riegel Academy

with great Science Slam in the auditorium of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn

A challenging and inspiring academy program awaits the young scientists of our MINT-TANK commencing with the 22nd until the 25th of September 2022. Data analyst David Kriesel and physician Dr. Johanna Holldack – these are just two of the numerous speakers we have for the exciting and inspiring lectures as part of the 4th Dr. Hans Riegel Academy.

Interactive workshops on current topics from science and society round off the diverse program:

  • „In der Warteschlange verreckt: Warum mein Rechner zu lange braucht“, (Died in the queue: Why my computer is taking too long)
  • „Gentherapien beim Menschen ", (gene therapy in humans)
  • "Chemie mit dem Computer", (Chemistry with the computer)
  • "Nachhaltige Anlagestrategien", (Sustainable investment/installation strategies)
  • "Teilchendetektoren am LHC - Nachweis der kleinsten Teilchen mit hausgroßen Detektoren " (Particle detectors at the LHC - detection of the smallest particles with house-sized detectors) and many more.

Excursions lead the MINT TANK members e.g. to the magnet factory Bonn, the  training center for astronauts of the DLR , the Max-Planck-Institute for Plant Breeding Research as well as to the bird of prey station in Hellenthal.

One of the highlights of the Academy is definitely the Science Slam, which will take place on Thursday evening (09/22/2022) in the auditorium of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. The Science Slam of the Dr. The Hans Riegel Foundation is intended to encourage young scientists to bring their own work closer to an audience in a simple and understandable way. One of the goals is to promote the communication skills of young scientists. In addition, we are aiming to awaken interest in a wide range of scientific topics among a broad audience. The slams are judged by the audience. Comprehensibility and entertainment value of the lecture are also evaluated in addition to the scientific content.

This year's "slammers" are all former winners of the Dr. Hans Riegel prizes.

The event can be experienced in person and/or via streaming on the "Breaking Lab" YouTube channel .

The science slam will be moderated by geologist and science slammer Thora Schubert ("Terra Xplore") and YouTuber Jacob Beautemps ("Breaking Lab").
